This courtyard garden in Berkeley wasn’t always so inviting. Plants were overgrown and spent, concrete walkways tight and outdated. Besides clearing and revealing, another challenge was creating flow between multiple entrances to the garden and two Victorian buildings. Softly winding pathways of Connecticut Full Range Flagstone provided the solution, guiding the way to a centerpiece patio for gathering or quiet contemplation. Plant groupings and repetition also served the flow objective, with fresh plantings of Lomandra ‘Platinum Beauty,’ Mahonia ‘Soft Caress,’ and Loropetalum ‘Plum Delight’ bringing renewed vibrancy to mature Birch, Japanese Maple, and Magnolia already on site. From every entryway and every perspective, it’s now an enchanting space to stroll and sit for awhile.
